Join the conversation by ‘Telling Your Story:  Advocate the PTA Way’

As a parent or caregiver, as soon as you speak to a teacher or administrator about a concern, you have become an advocate for your student. Join this workshop to learn about concerns parents have across the Commonwealth and ways that we can make positive changes for our students.

Key to asking for change is knowing where to get the data and how to use it. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires your school district and state to release a school report card every year. The report cards include important information about school environment, student demographics and academic performance on the state, local and school level. Although the reports need to be accessible to every parent, the information doesn’t always speak for itself.

That’s where YOU come in. Getting familiar with this information can help you turn these reports into results for your child’s school. Furthermore, Virginia PTA is committed to helping parents understand, interpret and advocate for meaningful, understandable and transparent education information.

This summer, our Advocacy training workshop will include a special focus on using reports to advocate for the change you want to see in your schools. Join the conversation by attending our Telling Your Story:  Advocate the PTA Way workshop.

For the course description:
This advocacy workshop focuses on using personal stories coupled with school report card data to advocate for meaningful change in your schools and across the Commonwealth, creating a larger grassroots network and working with elected officials to work to achieve PTA’s mission.
