Volunteers
Committee:
Mary Swears, Volunteer Chairperson
The
goal of the Volunteer Committee is to provide a guideline
for local units to establish and/or maintain an organized
volunteer base within their school.
State
Committee Focus:
- Promote
the establishment of parent and community volunteer programs
within Virginia’s schools through the presentation
of workshops at council, district, region, and state
Leadership Training Workshops on starting a volunteer
program
- Write
articles for the Bulletin and to be placed on the official
Virginia PTA/PTSA Website regarding the benefits of having
an organized volunteer program within the school and
steps in organizing such a program
- Promote
the presentation of National PTAs “Building Successful
Partnerships” throughout the state by scheduling
workshops for trained board members to present
- Establish
a Virginia PTA/PTSA volunteer recognition program
- Seek
information and develop a Volunteer Handbook
- Encourage
each local unit to establish a Volunteer Program in their
school
- Represent
the Virginia PTA/PTSA on coalitions and organizations
that advocate volunteerism
- Speak
on behalf of the Virginia PTA/PTSA at Public Hearings
in support of volunteerism in public schools

a volunteer request form that lists the needs of teachers
and support staff
- Design
a volunteer form that provides parents, community and
business partners with a list of volunteer opportunities
in the school and within the PTA
- Maintain
a record of volunteers and hours worked
