The goal of the Volunteer Committee is to provide a guideline for local units to establish and/or maintain an organized volunteer base within their school.

State Committee Focus:

  • Promote the establishment of parent and community volunteer programs within Virginia's schools through the presentation of workshops at council, district, region, and state Leadership Training Workshops on starting a volunteer program
  • Write articles for the Bulletin and to be placed on the official Virginia PTA/PTSA Website regarding the benefits of having an organized volunteer program within the school and steps in organizing such a program
  • Establish a Virginia PTA/PTSA volunteer recognition program
  • Seek information and develop a Volunteer Handbook
  • Encourage each local unit to establish a Volunteer Program in their school
  • Represent the Virginia PTA/PTSA on coalitions and organizations that advocate volunteerism
  • Speak on behalf of the Virginia PTA/PTSA at Public Hearings in support of volunteerism in public schools

Local Unit Focus

  • Establish a volunteer committee
  • Design a volunteer request form that lists the needs of teachers and support staff
  • Design a volunteer form that provides parents, community and business partners with a list of volunteer opportunities in the school and within the PTA
  • Maintain a record of volunteers and hours worked

Rules and Guidelines available in Volunteers Library.
