The Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers, also known as the Virginia PTA, is a membership organization. The primary reason for developing membership in the PTA is to:

  • build an informed team of individuals to work on behalf of all children and youth,
  • make the public aware of the resource that the PTA can be to parents, educators, and members of the community who work, in large and small ways, to secure a nurturing, healthy environment for children, and build strength in our numbers so that policy makers in all areas, at all levels will hear a strong, unified voice on behalf of children.

As a member of a local unit in the Virginia PTA, you are also a member of the National PTA.

Join PTA

The goal of the Virginia PTA Membership Committee is to build an informed, participating membership, familiar with the purpose, policies and programs of the National PTA and the Virginia PTA and to maintain an awareness of the pressing concerns of the school community.

You can join PTA any time during the year. It is a year round campaign that does not end after open house or 100% membership or on December 1st when dues are paid to the state PTA.

For more information, contact the Virginia PTA/PTSA Membership Committee Chair, membership@vapta.org

Visit the National PTA website for detailed Membership Recruitment and Retention information. Or refer to the National PTA Annual Resources for PTAs mailed to Local Unit Presidents or online in the National PTA Members section.

Ever Wondered how we determine the total population of your school? The Membership Chair and her committee would like you to know that we use the numbers provided by the Department of Education to determine your school's enrollment statistics.

There is a an "ADM" number that is used that can be found online. Visit the DOE website and select "School Totals by Grade" to download the excel spreadsheet and find your school's population. Then go to far right column of the spreadsheet to "Total Part-Time & Full-Time Students".
