At post-Convention 2009, the Public Relations and Technology committees were merged to form one state committee responsible for all forms of communication.

The objectives of the Communications committee are to strengthen the visibility of the PTA to the general public; to enhance communication from Virginia PTA committees and elected officers to local unit members; to encourage communications at all PTA levels; to identify and utilize technology applications; and to increase and strengthen Virginia PTA presence in the local communities statewide.

Currently the Communications Committee responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Maintaining the Virginia PTA website
  • Creating and distributing the official eNewsletter the Virginia PTA VOICE (Sign up!)
  • Developing the twice-yearly BULLETIN, the traditional newsletter
  • Managing communication on social network sites: Twitter and Facebook
  • Publicizing Virginia PTA messages, events, activities and conferences
  • Implementing the Virginia PTA Outstanding Communications Program and Awards
  • Development of Legislative Action Items (LAI) and/or position/policy statements that relate to technology usage

To contact the Communications Committee, send an email to communications@vapta.org.
