2002 Convention ResolutionsPledge of AllegianceRESOLVED, That the Virginia PTA/PTSA support legislation that the Pledge of Allegiance remain intact to include the phrase, “under God”.Mandatory Bicycle Helmet Use Ordinance For The Commonwealth Of VirginiaRESOLVED, That the Virginia PTA/PTSA supports immediate passage of a mandatory bicycle helmet use ordinance for the Commonwealth of Virginia. This ordinance will apply to all children age 14 years and younger and replace Virginia State Code, 46.2-906.1, “Local ordinances may require bicyclists to wear helmets;” and be it furtherRESOLVED, That all local units are encouraged to budget for bicycle safety programs, including the purchase of discounted helmets. Motion to refer to the Legislative Committee to reactivate the 1994 Mandatory Helmet Resolution with usage of current data to become part of the 2003 Legislative program and to refer to the JP committee to make information available to local units about implementing safety programs was carried at the 2002 Virginia PTA/PTSA State Convention.
