Pledge of Allegiance

RESOLVED, That the Virginia PTA/PTSA support legislation that the Pledge of Allegiance remain intact to include the phrase, “under God”.

Mandatory Bicycle Helmet Use Ordinance For The Commonwealth Of Virginia

RESOLVED, That the Virginia PTA/PTSA supports immediate passage of a mandatory bicycle helmet use ordinance for the Commonwealth of Virginia. This ordinance will apply to all children age 14 years and younger and replace Virginia State Code, 46.2-906.1, “Local ordinances may require bicyclists to wear helmets;” and be it further

RESOLVED, That all local units are encouraged to budget for bicycle safety programs, including the purchase of discounted helmets.

Motion to refer to the Legislative Committee to reactivate the 1994 Mandatory Helmet Resolution with usage of current data to become part of the 2003 Legislative program and to refer to the JP committee to make information available to local units about implementing safety programs was carried at the 2002 Virginia PTA/PTSA State Convention.

State mandated screening for scoliosis in grades 5 through 10 and the distribution of scoliosis awareness information for students in grades 5 through 12

Resolved, that the Virginia PTA/PTSA supports state mandated distribution of scoliosis awareness information for students in grades 5 through 12, and be it further  

Resolved,  that the Virginia PTA/PTSA seeks legislation to require mandatory in school scoliosis detection screening in grades 5 through 10.
