National PTA President

Jan Harp Domene, 2007 - 2009

Read Jan's Biography.

As we start this new calendar year, we want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for the incredible contributions you and your state have made to the growth of PTA. We measure our growth in leadership, in diversity, and in membership, and we know that many of you are working hard on all of these initiatives, especially membership.

This past November, local units in your state received a membership recruitment toolkit for a new January campaign, “New Year…New Opportunities.” This campaign aims to help local units focus on PTA membership during a time of the year that is ripe for recruiting but often overlooked. Parents new to the school community, school staff, community leaders, male role models, and local businesses are just a few of the potential new members for PTAs to pursue. We should encourage everyone who has resolved to devote more time to their kids or to make a difference in their community in the new year to join PTA—America’s number one parent involvement and child advocacy organization!

After running successful membership campaigns at the start of the school year, our local units generally focus on the important business of supporting our students and schools for the remainder of the year.

Knowing that greater membership makes PTA a more powerful voice for all children, we ask that you encourage your local units to take part in this January campaign with the same excitement they apply at back-to-School time. The “New Year…New Opportunities” campaign will propel our local units to try something new—for the benefit of children across the country.

Should you or any of your local units have any questions, please feel free to contact Michael Knowles, Scott Brody, or anyone in the membership/field service department.

Thank you for your time and effort in support of PTA. Your participation and leadership is a valuable addition to our organization, and we wish you continued success for the year.
