Middle and High School Students: Enter the VA PTA Citizenship Essay Project The Virginia PTA is proud to sponsor a Citizenship Essay Project. This Essay Project allows students to express their views and opinions on "character or citizenship". The Virginia PTA is committed to promoting a sense of citizenship and responsibility in the lives of our children -tomorrow's leaders. The theme this year is "Our Earth - Our Future." Virginia PTA Scholarship Program The Virginia PTA offers scholarships to graduating high school students planning to enter teaching or other youth-serving professions in Virginia. A $1,200 scholarship is awarded in memory of M. Frieda Koontz, who served as the Executive Secretary of the SCA from 1922-1950. Another $1,200 scholarship honors S. John Davis, Virginia's Superintendent of Schools from 1979-1989. All remaining scholarships are $1,000. The number of scholarships awarded each year depends on the number of PTA Service Awards (Life Membership, President's Honor Awards, Distinguished Service Awards, Certificate of Appreciation and Honor/Memorial Gifts that are given throughout the state each year. An auction is also held annually at the Leadership Training Conference to help fund the Scholarship Program. Download the application. Applications must be postmarked March 2, 2009 to qualify. |
