ANTIBIOTIC
RESISTANCE
Resolved, That the Virginia PTA will educate students, parents, administrators,
and community on antibiotic resistance via conducting workshops at Leadership
Training Conference and Convention, as well as through Virginia PTA/PTSA communication
tools; and be it further
Resolved, That the Virginia PTA/PTSA will work cooperatively with the Virginia
Department of Health to provide this education.
BINGE
DRINKING
Resolved, That the Virginia PTA seeks the enforcement of underage
drinking laws, behavior intervention programs, and implementation of objective
studies such as the Youth Risk Behavior Survey to determine health risks; and
be it further
Resolved,
That the Virginia PTA will educate its members,
students, parents and educators regarding the hazards
and health risks of binge drinking via conducting workshops
at Leadership Training Conference and Convention, as
well as through Virginia PTA/PTSA communication tools.
PRIMARY
AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS DAILY RECESS
Resolved, That the Virginia PTA seeks regulation by the Virginia Board
of Education to require daily recess (unstructured, child initiated play) of
at least 15 minutes for all primary and elementary children; and be it further
Resolved,
That the Virginia PTA suggests to the Virginia Board
of Education that this 15 minutes of unstructured time
be put in a part of the day where it would be most beneficial
and not piggy-backed after physical education time nor
should it be at the beginning or end of the school day.
PRESCHOOL
FUNDING EQUITY
Resolved,
that the Virginia PTA seeks funding for all preschool
initiatives regardless of prior local initiatives, and
without reducing or redirecting current state preschool
funds.
RISKY SEXUAL BEHAVIOR
Resolved, That
the Virginia PTA seeks to cooperate with the Virginia
Department of Health to provide educational materials
to students, parents, and community organizations on
the risks of oral sex among adolescents.
