Life Membership and Other Service Awards

The Scholarship Fund of the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers is supported by income from Honorary Life Memberships, Distinguished Service Awards, Certificates of Appreciation, the President’s Honor Award and Honor & Memorial Gifts. Each year the number of scholarships available depends upon the number of these awards and recognition's given throughout the state. Click here for the Scholarship Recipients. Virginia PTA Honorary Life Membership
is one of the highest tributes a person can receive. Any local unit, council or district in conjunction with the State PTA can give a Virginia PTA/PTSA Honorary Life Membership to someone who has made a contribution to the welfare of Virginia’s children.

Virginia PTA President’s Honor Award
is given to recognize meritorious service on behalf of children and youth to an individual who is a Virginia PTA/PTSA Life Member.

Virginia PTA Distinguished Service Award
is presented by a local unit to a person who has contributed a special service on behalf of children and youth.

Virginia PTA Certificate of Appreciation
is presented in recognition of exceptional interest in and dedicated efforts toward the Objects of the PTA. This award is often given to a person outside of PTA. (Printed on Parchment Paper)

Virginia PTA Unit of Excellence Award
has been established to recognize and reward local PTA or PTSA units in Virginia that demonstrate outstanding programs, membership, leadership, and partnership in all areas of their work.  The winning unit at each level, elementary, middle and high school will be recognized at the Virginia Annual State Convention in and awarded one registration to the state convention.   Winners will also be recognized in their local areas by state PTA officers.  Go to the members-only section for more information and the application.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD

Is there is a student who promotes special leadership abilities, which your local unit would like to recognize? You may present a Student Leadership Award in recognition and appreciation of a student’s leadership skills and efforts through your local unit or through the community on behalf of children and youth.

The cost of this award is $10.00 and a congratulatory letter from the State President will accompany the Student Leadership Award certificate for presentation to the student. All money generated from this and other Virginia PTA/PTSA recognition awards go to the Scholarship Fund. The funds go toward giving scholarships to students planning to enter teaching or other youth-serving professions in Virginia; and must attend a Virginia College or University.

Honor/Memorial Gift
may be made by any member who wishes to honor (1) the memory of a past PTA supporter or (2) a current friend of PTA.

National PTA Life Achievement - goes to the NPTA site
Any Parent Teacher Association—local, council, district, or state—in conjunction with the National PTA may bestow a National PTA Honorary Life Membership on someone who has made a contribution to children's welfare. The people to whom you present a National Honorary Life membership will appreciate the high honor, while your PTA members will be proud to be involved in the presentation.
