Outstanding PTA Newsletter Award

Publishing a PTA or PTSA newsletter is an excellent way to publicize PTA involvement in your school and community. In recognition of this important communication function, local units judged to have outstanding newsletters will be presented Outstanding PTA Newsletter Awards at the Virginia PTA summer Leadership Training Conference.

2006-2007 OUTSTANDING NEWSLETTER AWARDS RECIPIENTS
Newsletter entries from nine PTAs were honored July 14 at Longwood University as part of the 2006-2007 Virginia PTA Outstanding Newsletter recognition program. Virginia PTA received nearly 60 submissions for the 2006-2007 program, consisting of three newsletters from the current school year.

A PLATINUM AWARD, which recognizes the top PTA newsletters in the state, was given to:

Tuckahoe Elementary School PTA in Richmond, Richmond District, Henrico County Public Schools, publishes Signals and send it home monthly with the students. The editor's name is Margaret Sitison and the PTA President was Val Pate.

In the Middle School Division, Western Branch Middle School PTA's newsletter is emailed every other month. Western Branch Middle is in Chesapeake, in the Southeastern PTA District and Chesapeake City Public Schools. It's editor was Julia Walters and its president was Terri Fletcher.

Frank W. Cox High School PTSA publishes the Falcon Wing Press monthly, mailing it home and posting it on the school's web site. Cox High School is in Virginia Beach, Tidewater District and Virginia Beach Public Schools. Kelley Gangwer was the newsletter's editor; Kelsey Griffo-Grice is the PTSA president.

Receiving the GOLD AWARD for exemplary performance in producing a PTA newsletter were:

Landstown Elementary School PTA in Virginia Beach, Tidewater District and Virginia Beach City Public Schools. The Landstown Leader was edited by Alana Bobulinski and the PTA's president was Cindy Furman. The newsletter was sent home with the children quarterly.

The Grafton Middle School PTA's newsletter, the GMS PTA Monday Message, is posted weekly on the web. Grafton Middle School is in Yorktown, the Peninsula PTA District, York County Pubic Schools. The newsletter editor was Tonia Graves; its PTA president was Karen C. Mercier.

Westfield High School PTSA in Chantilly, Northern Virginia District, Fairfax County Public Schools, has been selected in the High School Division. The Westfield Bulldog Bulletin is both mailed and emailed home quarterly. Its editor was Michelle Plymyer and the PTSA president was Jennifer Campbell.
