Membership
Dues
While
the PTA collects annual dues, the real working capital
of a PTA lies in the membership, not in its treasury.
The primary emphasis of PTA is promoting the PTA
Mission and Purpose. The challenge being to work
with fellow members, school administrators, parents,
and teachers to find ways to improve the lives of children,
their families and the community.
Dues
provide the operating expenses of the Virginia PTA/PTSA
and the National PTA. Without dues, the many services
available through the state and national PTA would be
in jeopardy. The state and national portion of dues do
not belong to the local unit and are not recorded as
income. Prompt payment of dues by December 1st each year
enables the Virginia PTA/PTSA and the National PTA to
continue service to the local units.
The
membership dues paid by each member include the state
portion, established by the state bylaws, the national
portion, established by national bylaws, and the local
portion, established by the local unit bylaws. An individual
who pays dues to a local unit automatically becomes a
member of the state and national PTAs. People belonging
to more than one PTA must pay membership dues to each
local unit they join.
Note:
Dues are not tax-deductible.
