Reflections - Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to your frequently asked questions about Reflections!

  • Deadlines to turn in Reflections entries to the council and district levels can be found on the Virginia PTA website events tab.
  • Only the state level will be using online registration. No local units, councils, or districts are required to use this process; they will use paper entry forms.
  • If any student in the photography or visual arts categories, including special artist, places at the state level, meaning they receive Outstanding Interpretation, Award of Excellence, Award of Merit, or Honorable Mention, then their entry will be kept for a year to be displayed at state events and in the state office.
  • All entries submitted to the state level that do not place will be returned to district directors at the May board meeting.

Contact Jill Burley at artsineducation@vapta.org with questions.

Good Standing Status Means Opportunity!

For the 501(c)3 tax exempt letter and any award or grant from National PTA, as well as Virginia PTA awards, you must send in to Virginia PTA:

  • Your Officer Information Form
  • A copy of your audit when approved by your membership. Here is the fillable form and instructions.
  • A copy of your IRS 990.  Most PTAs should have sent them in to the IRS by November 15th.  There is an additional step this year to obtain a copy.
  • Your updated bylaws, if your five year revision is due. Your cover sheet with signatures has the due date for your next revision. You can always request a copy of your current bylaws by contacting liaison@vapta.org.
  • Your Membership dues must be postmarked by December 1st!

Virginia PTA student awards, including Reflections, Citizenship, Scholarship and Power Plates, must be from local units whose bylaws are up to date and have sent in their membership dues.

Virginia PTA is at your service!  If you need any assistance or further explanation, please contact us!

PTA Commitment to Positive, Safe Environments for All Children

PTA is committed to the well-being of our children and ensuring schools create a safe and inclusive learning environment for all children.

National PTA recently joined other leading education organizations in a national call to action addressing the recent reports of bullying behavior in schools. Every child deserves to come to school excited to learn in a safe and nurturing environment without the fear of bullying, violence or discrimination.

This call to action follows National PTA's statement on its commitment to positive, safe environments for all students and a recent webinar on bullying and cyber-bullying prevention.

It has long been a top priority of PTA to make sure all children have a supportive environment where they can thrive and learn. We are committed to working with schools, school systems, educators, parents and the community to ensure all children have the opportunity to receive a great education in a setting free from discrimination, harassment and violence.

We encourage you to share this statement among your membership and within your schools and communities to support and affirm safe and inclusive school learning environments for all students.
